Talk about perfect scheduling!
I usually tell expectant parents to schedule a maternity session between the 7/8th month mark. Bridget and Tyler booked a maternity session here in Park Slope with about 1 month+ to go. Baby Nora was born early the next week after our shoot! Mom and baby were doing alright, thank goodness! Just goes to show you that if you want moments in time captured, don't wait! I'm grateful I got to have such a fun time with these wonderful parents-to-be (and their dog, Ziggy)!

cover story: one year laterHeather and Rich wanted me to photograph them outside their home during the early months of the pandemic for their second wedding anniversary.
We had fun taking photos on their front steps, on the sidewalk; I even had them go inside and stick their heads out the window! Fast forward a few months and Heather and Rich were made into our cover family for our book The Front Steps Project Brooklyn! I got to work with Heather a bunch before they left Brooklyn for an amazing job opportunity for Rich in Zurich! Here's their interview from March 2021, a year after we first met: Has your life changed since I last saw you? How so? (As you already know and have been a big part of...) We held strong all year here in Brooklyn. I started a children's theatre company to continue creating and bringing musical theatre into the lives of young students. Our biggest news now is that we are moving to Zurich, Switzerland this summer! Any big lessons you've learned in the past 12 months? Can be personal, systemic, education, work, etc. Where to begin? Everything feels different. Like so many others during the pandemic, we have a different perspective on what really matters in our lives and how we spend our time and energy. Our relationship with each other has grown more than we imagined it could. We have become less complaisant, have learned to take action and have tough conversations. We are thankful every day for what we have, but are also learning to allow ourselves the space to process what has changed and what we have lost. What are your hopes (personal, societal) for the next 12 months? My biggest hope is that the hard lessons we all learned the past year aren't forgotten as we try to move forward. Personally, we're excited about the challenge of our new adventure! It's going to be hard to leave NYC, but we will always be New Yorkers at heart. It's back! I'm bringing back The Front Steps Project (TFSP) for a limited time only. I want to know how you're doing, what's different now, if you've moved, and what you've learned over the past year since I've snapped your front steps photo. I know we've all lived, worked, loved and lost and I want to hear your story. Who is Eligible: If I took your family's photo in 2020 for TFSP and you live in Park Slope, you are eligible. **If you have moved (ie: everyone that moved to New Jersey or back to Finland) and want to participate in the second part of this documentary project, you can! Have a neighbor snap a photo of your family out front (or use the self timer on your smart phone!) and email that to me. And please fill out the form below! $$ Donation Info $$: I'm helping to raise money for our local B.I.D., The Other Fifth, in Park Slope, Brooklyn. They're raising money that will support small businesses, non-profits, and the community. You can read more about the fundraiser here. <-- This is also the donation link! What Do You Get Out of This?
Scheduling Info: These short sessions will take place on weekdays only. I will be doing this for free as part of a documentary project and to raise money for the small businesses and community events #theotherfifth supports. If you'd like to extend your session (more time/photos for $250), you can indicate that on the sign up form. It's been a year since I've been in your homes.
A year since I've gotten to hold and cuddle a client's baby (...any baby!). A year since I've shot a 'Day in the Life' documentary session in a family's home: kids brushing their teeth, baking together, kids *very* reluctantly getting their shoes on to go outside, etc. I miss that. A year since my kids were inside of a school building. BUT! If you know me you'll know I'm all about gratitude and silver linings. It's almost been a year since I began The Front Steps Project in Park Slope, Brooklyn. A year since I met new, amazing photographer friends. A year since I became more actively involved in our community. I've met so many wonderful neighbors in the past 12 months, especially through The Front Steps Project and I love that I get to keep in touch with so many. I'm grateful for all of you! The weather is warming up (on most days... hey, it's the Northeast) and that means lots of outdoor family shoots! Let me know if you'd like a modern portrait session or a documentary shoot. Either of these are great for family photos, events and businesses. Having a Bar or Bat Mitzvah in your backyard or Prospect Park? Let's talk about a great way to preserve your memories. Can't wait to see you this Spring! xx, Adina |
